Rust admin commands run from the in-game F1 console once your SteamID has owner or moderator rights — or from an RCON tool without joining at all. This page starts with granting admin and opening RCON, then lists the commands by task, with the syntax the game's own command help and the Facepunch wiki give.
Quick answer
To make someone a Rust admin, run ownerid <SteamID64> "name" (owner, auth level 2) or moderatorid (auth level 1) from RCON or the server console, then server.writecfg to save it. The player reconnects and can then use admin commands in the F1 console.
From RCON or the server console, run users to find the player's SteamID64, then ownerid <SteamID64> "name" for owner (auth level 2) or moderatorid <SteamID64> "name" for moderator (level 1), and server.writecfg to write it to the config. The player must reconnect before the new auth level applies.
Granting & removing admin
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
ownerid <SteamID64> "name" | Grant owner — the highest auth level (2). |
moderatorid <SteamID64> "name" | Grant moderator — the second auth level (1). |
removeowner <SteamID64> | Remove owner status. |
removemoderator <SteamID64> | Remove moderator status. |
server.writecfg | Write server convars and settings to the config files — run it after any change you want to keep. |
Opening RCON
RCON lets you send every command on this page from outside the game — from a desktop RCON tool, a web console or a Discord bot. Add these to the server's launch line:
+rcon.port 28016 +rcon.password "use-a-long-random-password" +rcon.web 1rcon.port is a TCP port, rcon.web 1 turns on the web-based remote console, and the password is the only thing standing between the internet and full control of your server — make it long and never reuse it.
Player management
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
users | List connected players with SteamID64 and name. |
status | Connected players with ID, name, ping, playtime and IP. |
kick <player> [reason] | Kick a player by name or SteamID64 — they can rejoin straight away. |
ban <player> <reason> [duration] | Ban a connected player, optionally for a limited time. |
banid <SteamID64> <name> <reason> [duration] | Ban by SteamID64 — works when the player is offline. |
unban <SteamID64> | Lift a ban. |
banlistex | List bans with reasons and names. |
mute <player> / unmute <player> | Stop / allow a player's chat. |
kickall [reason] | Kick everyone, e.g. before a restart. |
Movement & visibility
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
noclip | Toggle admin flying and clipping through objects. |
god true / god false | Turn admin invulnerability on / off. |
teleport <player> | Teleport yourself to a player. |
teleport <player1> <player2> | Teleport the first player to the second. |
teleport2me <player> | Bring a player to you. |
teleportpos "x, y, z" | Teleport to world coordinates. |
Time, weather & environment
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
env.time <0-24> | Set the time of day (e.g. 12 = noon). |
env.progresstime false | Freeze the day/night cycle (true resumes it). |
weather.rain <0-1> | Force rain amount; -1 hands it back to dynamic weather. |
weather.fog <0-1> | Force fog amount (-1 = dynamic). |
weather.wind <0-1> | Force wind strength (-1 = dynamic). |
weather.load <preset> | Apply a named weather preset; weather.report shows the current weather. |
Items & server
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
inventory.give <item> <amount> | Give yourself an item by short name. |
find <text> | Search every command and convar by keyword — the quickest way to check a name. |
server.save | Force-save the game now. |
server.fps | Print the server's current frame rate. |
server.hostname "<name>" | The server name shown in the browser. |
say <message> | Broadcast a chat message as the server (admins in F1 type sv say). |
Owner (level 2) is the highest auth level and moderator (level 1) the second. Give moderatorid to staff who only need to moderate, and ownerid only to people you would trust with the whole server — then run server.writecfg so the roles survive a restart.
