Everything your Pixelmon server needs

Pixelmon servers live or die by spawning and world size. The official Pixelmon performance guide is specific about both.

Pixelmon Reforged brings more than a thousand Pokémon and their battles into Minecraft. The current line runs on Minecraft 1.21.1 with NeoForge — Pixelmon moved from Forge to NeoForge with 9.3.0 — and older servers still run 9.2.x on 1.20.2 Forge or 9.1.13 on 1.16.5.

Java matters here more than on most packs. The Pixelmon wiki says Java 8 before 9.2.0, Java 17 for 9.2.0–9.2.10 and Java 21 for 9.3.0 and above, and that earlier or later versions will not work. Installing a server means running the NeoForge installer in server mode, dropping the Pixelmon jar into mods and setting memory in user_jvm_args.txt.

What makes Pixelmon heavy is the world. Pokémon spawn around every player, and players on a public server fly in every direction. The Pixelmon performance guide calls pregeneration extremely important, and notes that worlds wider than about 30,000 blocks become hard to manage and can pass 50 GB after months of play.

We host Pixelmon in Frankfurt on high-clock CPUs and NVMe SSDs, behind multi-Tbps Anti-DDoS — useful for public servers, which attract attacks — with in-house support 24/7.

  • The right Java per Pixelmon version

Java 21 for Pixelmon 9.3.0 and newer, Java 17 for 9.2.x, Java 8 before that. We match the runtime to the version you run.

  • Pregenerated before launch

The Pixelmon guide sets max-tick-time to -1, draws a world border 2,000 blocks wider than planned and runs Chunky before players join. NVMe makes that a short job.

  • 6 to 16 GB, sized sensibly

The guide recommends at least 6 GB, says 8 GB suffices for a small community, and warns that more than 16 GB worsens garbage collection.

  • Spawner settings in reach

Pixelmon spawning is configured on the server in config/pixelmon.hocon. Edit it from the panel to balance spawns against TPS.

  • Room for a growing world

A Pixelmon world past 30,000 blocks across can grow beyond 50 GB. A sensible border and fast storage keep backups and saves under control.

  • Protection for public servers

Public Pixelmon servers draw attacks. Multi-Tbps filtering and our XDP layer keep them online during events.

How to make a Pixelmon server

From zero to online in four steps — no technical experience required.

  1. Choose 6 GB or more

Start at the 6 GB minimum, and move to 8 GB once the server is public.

  2. Install NeoForge and Pixelmon

Use the one-click installer, or run the NeoForge 1.21.1 installer in server mode and add the Pixelmon jar to mods on Java 21.

  3. Pregenerate inside a border

Set max-tick-time to -1, set a world border 2,000 blocks larger than planned, run Chunky, then shrink the border back and re-enable the watchdog.

  4. Open to trainers

Share the address and the exact Pixelmon version; players can use The Pixelmon Modpack on CurseForge.

How much server do you need?

Not sure which plan fits? Here's a quick guide for a Pixelmon server — and you can always upgrade RAM and slots instantly as you grow.

Minecraft server plans from €13.00 per month.

  • Starter

    6 GBRAM

    2–6 players

The bare minimum the Pixelmon performance guide gives for a server.

  • Community

    8 GBRAM

    10–20 players

What the guide says will suffice for an average server with a small player base.

  • Power

    12 GBRAM

    20+ players

Busy servers with gyms and events — and still under the 16 GB the guide says not to exceed.

How our protection works

Pixelmon hosting questions, answered

How much RAM does a Pixelmon server need?

The Pixelmon performance guide says most servers need at least 6 GB, that 8 GB will suffice for an average server with a small player base, and not to assign more than 16 GB. So 6 GB for friends, 8 GB for a public server, and around 12 GB for a busy one.

Which Java version does a Pixelmon server need?

Java 21 for Pixelmon 9.3.0 and above, Java 17 for 9.2.0–9.2.10, and Java 8 for versions before 9.2.0. The wiki is explicit that other Java versions will not work.

Is Pixelmon on Forge or NeoForge?

Current Pixelmon runs on Minecraft 1.21.1 with NeoForge, starting with 9.3.0. Older versions are on Forge: 9.2.x on 1.20.2 and 9.1.13 on 1.16.5.

Should I pregenerate a Pixelmon world?

Yes. The Pixelmon guide calls it extremely important: set max-tick-time to -1, set a world border about 2,000 blocks larger than your target, run Chunky, then reduce the border to the real size and turn the watchdog back on.

How many players can a Pixelmon server hold?

Ten to twenty players run well on 8 GB with a fast CPU and a pregenerated world. Spawning scales with players online, so larger servers need more RAM and careful spawner settings in pixelmon.hocon.

Do you install Pixelmon for me?

Yes — Pixelmon is a one-click install from the panel with the correct loader and Java. You can also install NeoForge and the Pixelmon jar yourself.

Do players need Pixelmon installed?

Yes. Each player needs the same Pixelmon version as the server; The Pixelmon Modpack on CurseForge is the easiest way to get it.

How much does Pixelmon server hosting cost?

A Pixelmon server runs on our Minecraft plans, which start from €13.00 per month with one-click modpack install and Anti-DDoS included. Bigger packs and more players need more RAM, so choose the plan to match.
