Everything your Vault Hunters server needs

Vault Hunters generates a fresh dungeon for every run. The official wiki is blunt about what that costs, and these are the parts that follow from it.

Vault Hunters 3rd Edition is Iskallia's action RPG pack for Minecraft 1.18.2 on Forge 40.3.11. You level up, spend points on talents and abilities, unlock mods through research, and dive into procedurally generated Vaults to collect the 25 artifacts that open the final boss. Release 3.21.7 (July 2026) is current, and Sky Vaults turns the same loop into a skyblock start.

The server runs on Java 17 — the official wiki warns against Java 8, 11 or anything newer. The server files contain the mods plus setup scripts (vh-setup-unix.sh, vh-setup.bat and a PowerShell version) that install Forge 40.3.11 and create run.sh and run.bat, with memory set in user_jvm_args.txt.

A vault is generated when a run starts, so load grows with the number of people running vaults at the same time, not just with how many are online. The wiki therefore sizes servers per concurrent player: 6 GB base plus 2 GB for each one at minimum, and 8 GB plus 2 GB per player as the recommendation.

Your Vault Hunters server runs in Frankfurt on high-clock CPUs and NVMe SSDs, behind multi-Tbps Anti-DDoS, with 24/7 in-house support.

  • RAM per concurrent runner

Vault Hunters recommends 8 GB plus 2 GB for every player running a vault at the same time. Plans follow that formula rather than a flat guess.

  • Java 17, exactly

The official install guide asks for Java 17 specifically. Forge 40.3.11 on 1.18.2 is set up on that runtime.

  • Official setup scripts

vh-setup installs Forge and writes run scripts and user_jvm_args.txt, so the server matches what the Iskallia team tests.

  • Restarts every 6 to 12 hours

The wiki suggests restarting a Vault Hunters server every six to twelve hours; schedule it once in the panel and forget it.

  • No client-only mods on the server

If you build from a client folder, remove legendarytooltips, torohealth and rubidium first — the official server files already leave them out.

  • Vault runs without interruptions

Multi-Tbps filtering in Frankfurt means a DDoS attempt does not cost you a vault full of loot.

How to make a Vault Hunters server

From zero to online in four steps — no technical experience required.

  1. Count concurrent vault runners

Size memory by how many players run vaults together: 10 GB for two or three, 14 GB for four or five, 16 GB beyond.

  2. Install 3rd Edition 3.21.7

Use the one-click installer, or upload the official server files and run the vh-setup script for your OS.

  3. Accept the EULA and start

Set eula=true in eula.txt, check -Xmx in user_jvm_args.txt and start with run.sh.

  4. Schedule restarts and invite

Add a 6–12 hour restart, then have players install the same release through CurseForge with 8 GB allocated.

How our protection works

Vault Hunters hosting questions, answered

How much RAM does a Vault Hunters server need?

The official wiki recommends 8 GB plus 2 GB for each player running vaults at the same time, with 6 GB plus 2 GB per player as the minimum. Its table gives -Xmx10G for two or three players, -Xmx14G for four or five and -Xmx16G for six or more.

Which Minecraft and Java version does Vault Hunters use?

Vault Hunters 3rd Edition runs Minecraft 1.18.2 on Forge 40.3.11. The server needs Java 17 — the wiki warns against Java 8, 11 or newer releases.

Why does Vault Hunters use so much memory?

Every vault is a procedurally generated dungeon created when a player enters it. Several players in separate vaults means several dungeons loaded at once on top of the overworld, which is why the wiki scales RAM per concurrent player.

How often should a Vault Hunters server restart?

The wiki suggests every six to twelve hours. Schedule it once in the panel and players always know when to expect it.

How many players can a Vault Hunters server hold?

It depends on how many run vaults together. Two or three fit 10 GB, four or five need about 14 GB, and six or more want 16 GB plus a fast CPU.

Do you install Vault Hunters for me?

Yes — Vault Hunters is a one-click install from the panel on Forge 1.18.2 and Java 17. You can also upload the official server files and run the vh-setup script.

Do players need the modpack installed?

Yes, the same 3rd Edition release as the server, installed through the CurseForge app with 8 GB of memory allocated as the pack page recommends.

How much does Vault Hunters server hosting cost?

A Vault Hunters server runs on our Minecraft plans, which start from €13.00 per month with one-click modpack install and Anti-DDoS included. Bigger packs and more players need more RAM, so choose the plan to match.
